Respiratory Safety Course Type
Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) gas is regularly found during the drilling and production of crude oil and natural gas. Although regularly attributed to the oil and gas industry, H2S hazards ... moreare also found in wastewater treatment plants, utility facilities and sewers.

H2S is produced as a result of the microbial breakdown of organic materials in an oxygen deficient environment. Colourless, flammable, poisonous and corrosive, H2S gas is noticeable by its rotten egg smell. With toxicity similar to carbon monoxide H2S prevents cellular respiration requiring constant monitoring and early detection.

During World War One, the British Army used H2S as a chemical weapon. Although it was considered to be less than the ideal war gas, it was used on two occasions in 1916.

The aim of the H2S Alive™ course is to provide all workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and respond to H2S emergencies in the workplace.
