OSSA Basic Safety Orientation (BSO) Training

Course Description
The Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) Basic Safety Orientation (BSO) is a four-hour, instructor-led, pre-site access course for the four OSSA member companies (Canadian Natural, Shell, Suncor and Syncrude). Upon completion of the course workers will be able to present their credential to any of the Oil Sands Safety Association Owner Member site as proof of completing the required site- access orientation. Only instructors who have been issued an OSSA BSO instructor number through certification are authorized to instruct the OSSA BSO.


At the completion of the OSSA BSO training, learners will be able to:
  • Identify worker rights and responsibilities
  • Identify and describe the seven OSSA Life Saving Rules
  • Identify different types of emergencies and emergency response procedures
  • Explain the appropriate procedures for reporting
  • Identify the core components of worksite safety
  • Recognize the importance of interventions
  • Identify environmental responsibilities

Who should attend?
Effective July 1, 2015, the OSSA BSO (Basic Safety Orientation) has replaced the OSSA Regional Orientation (ORO).

All contractors must either show proof of completion of the old OSSA Regional Orientation or the NEW OSSA Basic Safety Orientation (BSO).
 
Certification Details
DURATION
OSSA Basic Safety Orientation (BSO) is approx. 4.5 hours in duration.

TESTING
Participants will be required to achieve 80% on the quiz in order to receive a credential card.
