Course Description
This Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) approved training provides workers in the Province of Alberta and on OSSA sites with the knowledge and certification to safely work at heights.

Students will receive the most contemporary information and certification from a OSSA approved training provider.

This program consists of a combination of theory and practical modules and complies with Alberta OH&S Code Part 9 Fall Protection.
 
Curriculum
1. FALL PROTECTION BASICS MODULE
  • Introduction
  • Fall Protection Planning Instruction
  • Fall Arrest Forces & Calculations
2. FALL PROTECTION SYSTEMS MODULE
  • Personal Fall Arrest Systems
  • Travel Restraint Systems
  • Work Positioning Systems
  • Control Zones
  • Safety Nets
3. FALL PROTECTION SYSTEMS COMPONENTS MODULE
  • Type A, D, E, P, and L(or equivalent), full body harnesses
  • Connecting Components
    - Double Locking Snap Hooks
    - Carabineers
    - Life Safety Ropes & Fall Arresting Devices
    - Self Retracting Devices (SRD)
    - Manufactured or Engineered Horizontal Lifelines
    - Lanyards
  • Anchors
    - Permanent Anchors
    - Temporary/Improvised Anchors 
4. PROFICIENCY TESTING
  • Written Test
    - the learner must obtain a minimum of 80% in order to successfully complete the training program
    - English only testing with no verbal testing
  • Practical Demonstration/Controlled Weight Transfer

    Student Must Demonstrate
    - Student must complete a controlled weight transfer (hanging in a harness under a tripod)
    - Proper pre-use visual inspection of harness, anchor point, & connecting components
    - Proper donning and adjustment of harness as well as doffing and storage
 
Who should attend?
This program has been designed for those workers who require fall protection when working at heights in the Province of Alberta and on Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) sites (Syncrude Canada, Suncor Energy, Shell Albian Sands and Canadian Natural Resources).

Valid Duration of Certification

Certification for fall protection training is valid for a period of three (3) years from the initial certification date.

Recertification

To renew their credentials, participants are required to repeat a complete OSSA fall protection course.
