Course Description
This Ontario Ministry of Labour approved training provides workers in the Ontario construction industry with the knowledge and certification for working at heights in the Province of Ontario.

Students will receive the most contemporary information and certification from ministry-approved industry experts and trained adult educators.

This program consists of a combination of theory and practical modules and complies with Ontario Regulation 213/91 (Construction Projects).

Our instructors are certified and approved by the Ontario Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) as meeting the Working at Heights Training program and provider standards.

This Ontario Chief Prevention Officer approved training provides workers in the Ontario construction industry with the knowledge and certification to safely work at heights in the Province of Ontario.

Students will receive the most contemporary information and certification from CPO-approved industry experts and trained adult educators.
 
Curriculum
1. Basic Theory Module
  • Rights and responsibilities related to working at heights under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • General hazard recognition for working at heights
  • Hierarchy of controls
  • Safety procedures for warning methods and physical barriers
  • Safety procedures for ladders and similar equipment
  • An introduction to personal fall protection equipment
2. Practical Module
  • Barriers and safety nets
  • Personal fall protection equipment
  • Anchor points
  • Work positioning systems, work access and platforms
  • Rescue planning
3. Method of Evaluation (Test)

Written Test
  • the learner must obtain a minimum of 75% in order to successfully complete the training program.
Practical Demonstration
  • learning outcomes requiring demonstration must be performed satisfactorily in order to successfully complete the Working at Heights Practical module.
 
Who should attend?
All workers in the Province of Ontario who are required under O. Reg. 213/91 (Construction Projects) to use any of the following methods of fall protection:
  • a travel restraint system
  • a fall restricting system
  • a fall arrest system
  • a safety net
  • a work belt
  • a safety belt

Valid Duration of Certification


The training is valid for three years from the date of successful completion of an approved program.

Recertification

After the three year period, refresher training must be taken by a worker on a construction project using one of the listed fall protection methods. Workers will be able to renew the validity of the working at heights training by successfully completing a CPO-approved half-day “refresher” training program, delivered by a CPO approved training provider.
