Wildlife Awareness Training in Sydney, Nova Scotia

Grizzly bears, black bears and other types of wildlife are unpredictable. Whether you are seeking recreation in bear country (hiking, camping, fishing, hunting) or you’re involved in an industry that requires you to work in bear-country (seismic, logging, forestry), you need to be aware of what to do in the event of a bear sighting or encounter.

Knowing the appropriate response to a bear sighting/encounter could save your life and the lives of those you are with. iSafety Wildlife Awareness was created to provide the most students with the skills to deal with a bear encounter, including how to properly utilize bear spray.

Key Elements:

  • The Hierarchy of Wildlife Controls identifying how to avoid an encounter and how to respond if an encounter occurs
  • Hands-on activities which have students utilize bear spray (inert) to ensure students could properly use deterrent if an encounter occurs
Duration:
4 hours

Wildlife Safety Course Type
Seeing a bear can be one of the most memorable experiences of working in the woods, but it is our responsibility to respect the bear in its home. This means we must not force bears ... moreto leave their habitat, teach them to eat human foods, or place bears in situations where people or bears could get hurt. Preparation and education are essential to ensure our encounters with bears in the wild are positive and
free from conflict.
